Spring & Vine x Jeans and a Teacup

We’ve partnered with Jeans and a Teacup to give you the honest truth about whether shampoo bars are as easy and convenient as shampoo bottles.
3.5 minute read

We partnered with Jessica, a “jack of all trades” living with her husband, toddler, and new baby in Los Angeles. She wants to live sustainably but, honestly, she’s not going to make the switch unless it’s easy. We’ve included some of her experience below, and you can read her extended thoughts about using her shampoo bar here.

Why she wanted to try shampoo bars

“One of my resolutions this year is to use less plastic and choose more eco-friendly products. When I think about the amount of plastic I use and throw out I’m really embarrassed. I’m sure we can all agree that contributing more plastic waste to landfills is not a good idea! But I’m also looking for easy ways to eliminate plastic from my life because I know that if it takes too much effort I won’t stick with it.

When I first heard about shampoo bars years ago I was kind of skeptical. I’ve used bottle shampoo my entire life so using a bar shampoo seemed really foreign to me. But like I said above, I’ve really wanted to try my best to create less waste so I was willing to give the bar shampoo a try.”

Her concerns about making the switch

“One of my concerns with switching to a bar shampoo was the lather. I love a good lather and wasn’t sure if a bar would do that. Luckily, the Spring & Vine bars do a great job at lathering! They work even better than bottle shampoo, in my opinion! Oh, and the Spring & Vine bars smell AMAZING! I’ve been using the Balanced Clean – Lavender & Orange Blossom bar and I LOVE the smell. I found that it cleans my hair and leaves it moisturized.”

What she loved about her shampoo bar

  1. REDUCES PLASTIC PACKAGING “Shampoo bars eliminate the need for a plastic bottle which creates A LOT less waste. These Spring & Vine bars use 95% less plastic and the cardboard packaging is recyclable. When you think about it, you really don’t need a bottle for shampoo. I use bar soaps all the time to wash my hands and it works great. So why not do the same with my shampoo?”

  2. LONG LASTING “The main ingredient in bottle shampoo is water which is why it seems you need to use a lot in order for it to work. Spring & Vine Shampoo bars contain 90% less water than a bottle of shampoo so you don’t need as much product for it to work. I found that these shampoo bars lather up really quickly so it’s easy to tell when you have enough product in your hair. These bars are formulated to last as long as a 12.6oz bottle of shampoo!”

  3. SPACE SAVING AND TRAVEL FRIENDLY “Since these shampoo bars are concentrated, they take up a lot less space than a bottle of shampoo. That also means they will take up less space in your bag when you are traveling! You also won’t have to worry about your shampoo spilling in your luggage if you switch to a shampoo bar!”

  4. CLEAN INGREDIENTS “Spring & Vine Shampoo bars are formulated without sulfates, parabens, silicones, dyes, phthalates, mineral oils, and synthetic fragrances! They are also PETA-certified vegan and cruelty-free!”
